Deploy the Android MTP Mobile App Using MobileIron

Use the MobileIron console to deploy the MTP Mobile App for Android.

Tip: Deployment as a Public App is recommended for production. In-House deployment is useful for testing purposes.

Prepare for Deployment

Prior to deploying the MTP Mobile App:

• Make sure that the MobileIron EMM integration is enabled in the Admin > Organization and configured in the Admin > EMM tabs.
• Confirm that the MTP Mobile App is enabled. See Enable MTP Mobile Apps.
• Prepare a MobileIron Label containing the devices that will get the MTP Mobile App.

Deploy Android MTP Mobile App as a Public App

To add the Android MTP Mobile App to MobileIron as a public app

1. In MobileIron, go to the Apps > App Catalog tab.
   
   
2. Click Add.
   
3. Select the Google Play library.
   
4. Search for the Appthority MTP Mobile App.
   
5. Select it.
   
   
6. Click Next.
7. Review the app description and add it to a category, if any.
   
   
8. Click Next.
9. In the APPS@WORK CATALOG section, click Feature this App in the Apps@Work catalog.
   
   
10. Select other required app settings, if any, as per your company's procedures.
11. Click Finish.
12. The App Catalog now lists the Appthority MTP Mobile App.
    
    Tip: The Source filter must be set to All or Public for the app to appear in the list.
    

To apply the app to the Android label

1. In the Apps > App Catalog list, select the MTP Mobile App and click Actions > Apply To Labels.
   
2. In the Apply to Labels popup, select Android.
   
   
   
3. Click Apply. The Appthority app listing shows the new Android label in the LABEL column.
   
4. Have your users install the App and its PIN as described Install the MTP Mobile App on the Device.
   

Deploy Android MTP Mobile App as an In-House App

Caution: While this scenario is available in MTP Manager, it is not the currently recommended method for production deployments. Appthority recommends deploying MTP Mobile App as a public app from MobileIron, as previously described. The versions of the apps downloaded from MTP Manager may be older than versions on the app stores.

Get the .APK file from Admin > MTP Mobile App. Make sure that the EMM integration and the MTP Mobile App are enabled in the Admin > Organization and configured in the Admin > EMM tabs.

The process is essentially the same for MobileIron Core (on-premise) and MobileIron Cloud.

To deploy Android MTP Mobile App as an In-House App in MobileIron

1. Go to the MobileIron App Catalog and click Add.
   
2. Click In-House.
   
   
3. Click Browse.
4. Locate the file and upload it.
5. Click Next.
   
   
6. Add a Description and a Category, as you prefer.
7. Click Next.
8. In the APPS@WORK CATALOG section, click Feature this App in the Apps@Work catalog.
   
   
9. Click Next.
10. In the App Configuration section select other required app settings, if any, as per your company's procedures.
    
11. 
12. Click Finish.
13. The App Catalog shows the MTP Mobile App as an In-House App.
    
    
14. Apply the Android label as described in the previous section.
15. Have your users install the App and its PIN as described in the next section.
    

Install and Configure the App on Devices

To install the MTP Mobile App on a user's device:

1. Start the App on the device.
2. The app requests the user's email. The user's email must be the same domain as your Appthority Organization.
3. Appthority MTP verifies the domain and sends a passcode to the user's email account.
4. Get the passcode, a 6-digit PIN, from the email and enter it into the MTP Mobile App.
   
5. Click OK. The app is configured.
